Big Sept.

September has turned out to be quite the month for you. You took your first official steps on 9-22, which just also happens to be the first day of fall. Here's a list of your other, recently developed, tricks:

  • giving (sloppy, open mouthed) kisses
  • saying "nana" and looking expectantly at the fruit basket
  • calling every fruit other than the banana "apple"
  • yelling "more!" and slapping your hand on your highchair tray
  • laughing when you hear other people laughing
  • clapping!

I'm sure there are many many more, but that's all I can think of for now. We're also gearing up for your very 1st birthday party, which is sure to be quite the occasion. You're lucky that we love you and have decided not to make you wear this hot dog costume:

Your future as an acrobat

Big week it's been. You've stood up on your own(and held the praying mantis pose for a mighty impressive 10 seconds!!), said a few mama's(although you still have no clue what it means...), and have taken to waving hi and bye bye like a champ.

Dad and I are very impressed with you at the present....convinced you must be Cirque Du Soleil's next big star.

Current favorite phrase: Na-na (which I think means that you're hungry)
Current favorite toys: Blue ice cream scoop, spoons, and you're still in love with the blue top to the lotion tub.

Our first Mother's Day

So I've decided that I'd like to start a tradition of writing my favorite things about being Canon's mom every mother's day so here goes:

1) Your hysterical laughter when I started shaking the memory foam pillow in your face while lying in bed this evening.

2) The fact that when we play peekaboo you're genuinely surprised every single time.

3) How awesome it is that you've slept through the night every night since last Friday's pediatrician appt. And we're not talking a piddly 8hrs.....you went from sleeping 4 hours a night to conking out for at least 12 straight hours!!!

4) Your favorite sound to make(over and over and over) is a very spitty and drool filled.... a-gheeeeeeee.....

5) The fact that despite all of the toys we've bought for you, your favorite things to play with are a tub of lotion and daddy's cell phone.

6) Your crazy fly baby-do. Let's face it....your hair is way cooler than any of the other babies'.

7) How hilarious you look when you go zooming across the kitchen in your walker(all the while chewing on a coaster).

8) How painfully sweet it is when you lay your head on my shoulder.

9) and my absolute favorite thing about being your mom is getting a front row seat to watching you grow up. I wouldn't trade our happy family for anything else in the world!!!!

Love,
Mom

D-Day

So today was my first day back at work. I somehow managed to get out of the house with only the smallest of breakdowns. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Albeit Aaron and Canon came and had lunch with me so I didn't have to go all day, but I figure it's a start. I did find that the bright side to having to leave my adorable child is getting to come home to his cute chubby face that's even more excited than usual to see me(ok so his expression didn't actually change at all when I walked in but I can only assume that's just because he doesn't yet have control of his face. I mean it's pretty obvious that while the outside is saying drooly mess, the inside is gleefully screaming "Hooray mom's home!!!!!").

Tomorrow's goal: Leaving the house sans nervous breakdown....

Resolutions

I've decided to fall in line with every other blog I've read in the past couple of days and go ahead and post my 2009 resolutions. I know this can only end in heartache, as I'm sure to default on most if not all of them, but in the spirit of the new year here goes:

1) Pay off all credit card debt by the end of the year

2) Write something in this blog or my personal writing blog every day

3) Get my huge pregnancy sized ass back down to a size 6

4) Spend more personal time with my wonderfully deserving and incredibly patient husband

Hmm...well I thought I had a few more goals for the year, but I guess I plan on being quite the underachiever. Oh well, all the better to ward off disappointment by setting my expectations low haha.

R.I.P. Chucky and Applebee

So my dad and Theresa are on their way over. Apparently both of their dogs got out of the fence yesterday and both were hit on a major street by their house. Both adorable little toy poodles, Chucky was 15 and Applebee was 12. What a sad way to start out the new year.

Just another reminder about how delicate life is.

Cheers to Chucky and Applebee and their happy little lives.

Purpose statement, interrupted

Now that all of that first post mess is behind us it's time for some actual content.

The original intended purpose of this blog was to chronicle the growth of our son Canon, but knowing my long winded nature it will surely expand to cover other areas. As 2008 and in turn my 2 month maternity leave come to a close I'm confronted once again with how quickly time insists on passing me by. I suppose I'm hoping that by documenting our little moments and his everyday developments I'll at least have a concrete way to review the time that has passed on these all too common days when I become overwhelmed by how quickly he is growing.

To Canon:

As I type this you are laying on your tummy on the sofa. I'm currently debating whether I should try to pop your orange pacifier back in your mouth(it's currently nuzzled safely in your elbow) but risk waking you up in the process, or whether I should just let you be and risk you waking up extremely pissed off when you realize that it's not in your mouth. Decisions decisions.

I cannot believe that you are already two months old. How did your newborn days whiz by so quickly?.....

The internet somehow got disconnected and I totally forgot where I was going with this post......in lieu of actual content I've decided to include one of my favorite pics from your early days.....
